CS240: Conway Stewart No. 42 Pencil, boxed.
Date: c1960s
Size: Length: 5 1/8 inches.
A beautiful glossy burgundy No. 42 pencil.
These pencils were sold on their own or paired with the No.
106 fountain pen. It is in
excellent condition - in fact, I can find no damage at all on
this pencil - it really does not look like it has ever been used.
There are no scratches or other damage to cap or
barrel, and all of the trim is bright and shiny with no brassing.
The top of the cap has a conical ended clack button that holds on
the gold plated Conway Stewart
pocket clip. This has the "CS" logo within a diamond at the
top and another diamond shape at the bottom. There is a
single gold plated band around the cap lip. The cap pulls off
and beneath is an unused but fossilized pink eraser. On the side
of the barrel is a clear and deep imprint. This is a
propel-repel pencil that works by twisting the cap. I have
installed a fresh 1.1mm lead into the mechanism so it is all ready to
go. The box would have originally contained a fountain pen as
well, but unfortunately, this has been lost at some point. The
two front corners of the lid have splits, but otherwise it is in very
good condition. The zebra print exterior really stands out, and
the original price tag is still inside.
I have fully serviced this pencil. It has been
fitted with a fresh lead. All the internal mechanism is in
excellent condition and the pencil works well.
An very nice later Conway pencil.
