ES256: Esterbrook Transitional, No. 9550 firm fine nib.
Date: c1940s
Size: Capped - 5 1/16 inches; posted
- 6 1/8 inches.
The Transitional is one of my favourite Esterbrook
models. This one is in a very attractive silver grey
pearlised resin that really catches the light and almost gives
a 3-dimensional effect. I can find no damage at all on this
pen, there are not even any noticeable surface scratches. The
cap has a black plastic stepped top "jewel"and a chrome plated
pocket clip with vertical ribbing. The single chrome plated
cap band also has the ribbed decoration. The barrel has a
flat end with a very good imprint on the side. The spade-ended chrome
plated filling lever is again ribbed along the shaft. The nib is a No.
9550 firm fine renew-point. These stainless
steel nibs are screw-in units and are interchangeable with other
Esterbrook Re-new points. This one is undamaged.
I have fully serviced this pen. The nib is
very smooth in action and writes with a wet and firm
extra-fine width line.
A very good and stylish writer.
