WE320: Eversharp Skyline.
Date: c1940s
Size: Capped - 5 5/16 inches; posted
- 6 1/8 inches.
A very attractive glossy midnight blue Skyline with a
bright and unbrassed gold filled cap. The barrel and section
are both glossy with no noticeable surface scratches or other
damage and have the characteristic sharply tapered end that
contrasts to the rounded, blunter end to the cap. The cap is
topped by a black coloured derby. This pen
is in excellent condition, and the only damage I can see are a few
surface scratches on the rear of the cap - I have taken a close-up
photo below so you can see them. As usual, the photograph tends
to over-emphasise the problem.
The distinctive over the top pocket clip has the double tick
quality mark at the top and is engraved "EVERSHARP" down the length of
the shaft. The gold filled cap body is decorated with incised
hoops . The cap has no dings at all and no brassing either,
and unusually there is no noticeable plating wear on the filling lever
either. The nib is a shiny and undamaged Eversharp in 14
carat gold. It is my favourite type of Skyline nib with the
short stubby tines and the teardrop incising around the air hole.
I have fully serviced this pen. The nib
is very smooth to use and lays down a lovely wet, and
consistent extra-fine width line. This nib really is a needlepoint!
A classic wartime pen. Would make a super
every day writer.
